"Psst ... We are currently in the middle of launching a new community site."
Burda, ja traditionell (s. Aenne Burda, Burda Mode) über seine Schnitt- und Strickmuster Zeitschriften im Handarbeitsbereich stark, plant eine neue Häkel-& Strick-Community. Esther Dyson schreibt:
"Nora Abousteit of Burda is about to launch Burda Style, a user-generated content site in which the tools are clothes patterns and the content is clothes and fashion.
This harks back to Burda Moden, which was the original user-generated clothing (i.e. patterns and sewing, along with fashion) magazine, in Germany just after the war.
Abousteit shares offices with Etsy and O'Reilly's MAKE magazine, heralds of the user-generated world.
Unlike most pattern companies/services, Burda will encourage its members to use the patterns commercially - to make dresses for customers, for example, or to create and sell their own patterns. (And of course they will be encouraged to comment on, rate and otherwise network around one another's creations.)"
"Soon we will be able to lift the veil on our project developed jointly with the Etsy team so stay tuned or join us at DLD in January where you'll get a chance to meet with Etsy."
It will be interesting to see what becomes of this.
Etsy is a great platform for many new young designers (i shamelessly include myself in that group), and the fashion/bfsc sector of Etsy is determined to mobilise itself to attract those who do not want a store-bought/mass-produced style... I look forward to seeing in which direction these developments unfold...
